Probus Club of Harpenden - Walking Group
Thursday 26th April 2018
Meet at The White Horse, Burnham Green AL6 0HA (Tel 01438 798100) at 10.30 a.m.
The walk is approx.5 miles around the Welwyn tunnels area with distant views of the famous viaduct. No stiles but a (non-obligatory) kissing gate. The pub lunch is at The White Horse, where a booking has been made. Menus will be available at the walk start for pre-ordering lunch. Spouses and friends are very welcome on the walk or just lunch.
We will meet in the White Horse Car Park situated at the far corner of the Green. Cost NIL (pay for your own lunch and drinks [they usually have a very good home-made pie and a range of good ales]). Parking free.
Some mud should be anticipated at this time of year (walking boots essential) and the weather is always uncertain, so members should wear and/or carry suitable apparel and walking aids to meet all conditions. When coming on this walk, you and any guests you invite to attend are confirming that you and they have read and will conform to the Probus Club of Harpenden’s Guidelines for Outings, Trips & Walks.
It would be helpful, but not essential, if you let Paul Durden (467495, or 07801344014 on the day) know by noon on Monday 26th February if you are coming in order that we have an idea of the numbers and who to ring if cancelled due to bad weather.
Burnham Green is easy to find. A short hop north up the A1 to exit at Jnct. 6. At the 1st roundabout take 2nd exit, at next roundabout take 3rd exit and at the next mini roundabout continue round to the left and pass under the AI.
You are now on a dual carriageway heading briefly towards WGC. At the next roundabout continue straight on (1st exit) up a hill. Dropping down the other side the viaduct is ahead and you pass under and take the 1st turning on the left, the Harmer Green Lane. This leads directly to Burnham Green where you turn left at the end of the Green to see the White Horse directly ahead of you. Allow half an hour from Harpenden.
